GRK Productions, Inc. is owned and operated by Divemaster Gary Knapp, your “Dive Travel” host.

Gary was born in Coldwater, Michigan. A graduate of Career Academy of Broadcasting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gary retired after 32 years as a professional broadcaster in both radio and television.

As a radio and television talk show host, he interviewed over 25,000 guests during his career. While he worked in all facets of the broadcasting profession, he especially enjoyed program production and video editing which he again put into action in the production of his “DiveTravel” series. Over his years as a broadcaster, Gary was instrumental in building both a radio and TV station from the ground up.

During Gary’s 16 year career in the radio broadcasting business, he started out as a disc jockey in North Dakota, later becoming a news director and talk show host in Cadillac, Michigan. Years later he became a radio sales manager and, eventually, station manager of a local station in Cadillac.

In 1983 he created his own TV station, first originating Cable TV 3, a local channel, exclusively operating on cable. Gary was a pioneer in this area as this was before cable television sold advertising as you see it today. He also filed and was granted a local television broadcast license from the FCC, then forming a limited partnership made up of a group of investors which enabled the building of Northern Michigan’s Fox Affiliation, known as WGKI-TV FOX 33 in Cadillac, Michigan, and WGKU-TV FOX 45 in Vanderbilt Michigan. He later added four other transmitter site locations; one in Traverse City, Alpena, Pickford, and Sault Saint Marie for a grand total of six transmitter site locations covering all of Northern and the entire Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan. He retired and sold his company in 2000.

He is currently filming underwater as a videographer and host of his new “Dive Travel,” – a series of exciting and breath taking trips below the ocean’s surface.

Adventurer Gary Knapp has a tremendous passion for making films under the ocean and around the world....he has literally been on every corner of the globe shooting video for the Dive Travel Adventure Series, including shoots in Australia, Fiji, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Belize, and 20 of the top dive destinations of the world and in most of the oceans that span it. He is currently traveling and producing approximately five new shows each year.

Coming from the harsh winters of Northern Michigan, Gary is well grounded in all sorts of shooting conditions. He was once told by a dive instructor “if you can dive in the cold and often rough, blustery, sometimes dangerous waters of the Great Lakes, then you can dive anywhere in the world." He is as comfortable in a dry suit, shooting under the ice in northern lakes, and on ship wrecks of the Great lakes, with temperatures at or below 46 degrees, as he is in the warmest of tropical locations.

Gary, is admired for his courage, shooting video and swimming with of some of the largest pelagics, in ocean depths nearing decompression diving at times, as he is in the shallowest locations. He can adapt readily to conditions of poor visibility in rough oceans and to dangerous currents.

Gary, unlike most videographers around the world today, has a vast background of broadcasting spanning over 30 years in both radio and television here in America. He built an entire network of small market FOX TV stations from the ground up throughout Northern Michigan in the 1990’s, later selling them and retiring early from that profession.

Gary now applies his former broadcast expertise to doing what he loves, following his passion for filming under the deep ocean, bringing back time and time again, awe-inspiring, stunning HD Widescreen images that are now available on Blu-ray disc from his own private studio that tell a story of God’s creations under the sea.
